#SaveChinatownYVR is a campaign that aims to inform and activate citizens to take action for Vancouver's Chinatown. It is currently led by a network of dedicated community members.
Vancouver's Chinatown is the largest Chinatown in Canada and is an intergenerational living community. It is a recognized National Historic Site full of cultural and historic significance for Chinese Canadian history. In 2006, it was recognized as #2 on the National Trust for Canada's Top 10 Endangered Places list and #3 on Heritage Vancouver's Top 10 Watch List due to the development pressures the neighbourhood is facing. With a high population of low-income seniors and children living in low-income families, Chinatown is also home to some of the most vulnerable people in Vancouver. The neighbourhood is a critical zone for food security for the DTES and surrounding neighbourhoods.
