Why you should say “No” to 105 Keefer:

  1. Taxpayers should not be funding a developer's profits – The additional mass and height that Beedie will be receiving for 105 Keefer will be on the backs of taxpayers. Taxpayer-funded BC Housing will be purchasing Beedie's social housing units. On top of that, Beedie is getting a discount on their DCL (Development Cost Levy) and the City's real estate department determined Beedie doesn't have to provide any Community Amenity Contributions (CACs). Why are taxpayers funding a developer's profits? It's just simply not right. For more information, read this Vancouver Sun op-ed.
  2. Unaffordable for locals – Its proposed market housing will perpetuate affordability crisis in Vancouver. Million dollar penthouses aren't fit for one of the lowest-income neighbourhoods in Vancouver.
  3. Economic displacement – It will economically displace Vancouver’s most vulnerable citizens and the affordable, culturally appropriate businesses they depend on.
  4. Lack of design merit – The design has been rejected by City of Vancouver’s Chinatown Historic Area Planning Committee twice, including the current proposal.
  5. Inappropriate use of culturally sensitive site – Located on the Keefer Triangle, the most culturally sensitive area in the neighborhood named #2 on National Trust for Canada Top 10 Most Endangered Sites in 2016.
  6. Height and mass unfit for area – It’s 4X taller and 3.5X denser than the average building in its surrounding area.
  7. Rejected by community – Over 1800 combined signatures opposing proposals to date. Past and current proposals have been rejected by Chinatown Heritage Area Planning Committee, Vancouver Chinatown Revitalization Committee, Building Community Society of Greater Vancouver
